I had a sweet Christmas! I love going to Dad's Fire Station, the guys enjoy petting me and letting me sniff all their stuff. We celebrated today opening presents (my favorite). Lots of new birds to add to my prized flock and some bright new tennis balls, a Golden Retriever can never have enough tennis balls in my book. But, the best thing was our entire pack was together ..... ahhhhh.

It was a full day....now it is time to lay and chill out... even my little birdie is feeling exhausted. Sheldon stressed us out. How what your Christmas?

Today I started helping out around the yard trying to do my part with all the limbs + trees that fell in last weeks storm. I am starting small and just nibbling the small stuff, trying my hardest to turn it into mulch for our backyard.

Well, I have spent many a night chained to the 'ol printing press and can now say I have finally finished our new 2012 calendar after many, many, many (lots) months of thinking about it. Check it out at our Etsy Shop here. For those of you who don't know me, let me just say it takes me FOREVER to decide things! Like deciding on a size or format (large poster, 4 seasonal cards, a notebook style calendar…), the list goes on. Once I finally settle upon something I just go with it! I am so smitten with my choices: a 140 pound "antique" paper that once you feel it in your hands, you just fall in love with it, for those paper lovers out there! The 4" x 6" size works well for a desk or work space area. But the most exciting addition was the Aspen "stump" holder that goes along with each 2012 Calendar. Doug cut all 40 of them just oh so "perfectly" even though each one has it's own "individual" personality and the best part is you can re-use the little Aspen holder for years to come. The printing itself went incredibly smoothly for me. As many of you know the most time-consuming part is changing ink -- You have to clean-up the press EACH + EVERY time, and the Golding’s rubber rollers are sometimes weird and very unforgiving. And on that note .... stay tuned for a 2012 Calendar GIVE-AWAY, coming soon.

Suzanne + Robin = 2 fun, fun, women who loved, loved paper. You would not be able to tell they just met and spent a few hours together producing some beautiful BLUE stationery + coaster sets! I knew immediately Suzanne had a true love of paper.... a stationery distributor herself while living in the Windy City. It is always a pleasure for me putting on a Letterpress Workshop for a mother + daughter! I knew right away how artistic they would both be when they pulled out their handmade aprons, put on gloves and got to work. What a fun day working along side them.

I loved MaDonna's apron from the start, but I think she enjoyed wearing her gloves and getting all "inky"!

Heather knew how she wanted her stationery to look and the precision of placement was something she was really good at....

wanting to have the doggie in just the right spot .... and the end result was stunning!

Once these two had the press set up under control... watch out! They were moving + printing. I loved how they worked together as a team. I enjoyed the energy they brought to CabinPress Studio + hope they know the Studio door is always open for them in the future.

What a great day with a fun family! I was truly im{press}ed with Craig knowing about movable Type. I think his Mom + Aunt were im{press}ed too. I have been printing a lot with pink for special orders, so it was so refreshing to have this Workshop pick Metallic Copper. It was truly a fun day and I am sure they will be displaying lots of coasters and sending out some very special stationery to friends. Thanks again to all and I hope you come again!

Michelle's concentration amazed me!

That describes this Curiosity Letterpress Workshop! I love getting to know participants and how their Letterpress Love came about and Michelle truly had a special story.... when we first spoke over the phone she told me how she watched Typeface on PBS, one of my favorite documentaries telling the story of a rural Midwestern museum and print shop where international artists meet retired craftsmen and together navigate the convergence of modern design and traditional technique of making "type".
I felt so at home and excited to have Michelle travel to CabinPress Studio for her Workshop. I hope she visits again soon and continues on her journey with Letterpress and her collection of paper. I know anyone that receives a handmade card from Michelle should cherish her work! The time and thought she puts in is amazing and EXTRAORDINAIRE, to say the least.

I am so excited that the USPS will be issuing The Garden of Love — ten different First-Class stamps depicting a colorful mosaic of flora and fauna in a garden setting. These stamps are a continuation of the Love series, begun in 1973, and are intended for use on Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day cards, as well as on other occasions when love and affection are expressed. It was such a pleasure to see Lyn again + share Springtime with her + Letterpress printing! Stacey Siegel's 4th + 5th graders are SO eager to learn the art of carving Linoleum Blocks, we all meet bright and early before school begins for the next 3 weeks. The Letter "H"

Today's Letterpress Workshop theme was the letter "H". It was amazing what Lorie thought of to set that "H" apart from anything I have seen participants do before. Stunning Brown ink on Kraft envelopes along with Vintage type + cuts. I know everyone that receives her personalized stationery will enjoy the look and feel of Letterpress and that "third" dimension on some beautiful cotton paper.

She was very drawn to the CabinPress Studio's Hamilton wood type, I always love when folks appreciate the history of it. Mixing vintage wood type + 2 font families for one "H"appy coaster!

Taking some time out of their busy schedules from red letter creative and Bailiwick Press these women produced some fun blind impression personal stationery and red coasters which they decided to divide into 3 piles and share with each other.... I am always amazed by the wonderful + thoughtful things that my Workshop participants print with little "Minnie". Meet Cara + Karl, two very special participants that I was lucky to share the evening with. I could just tell by being around them they had so many ideas and settled on some beauties, to say the least. It was hard to tell they had never printed a piece in there lives, truly they are both naturals! Can you tell by looking at those stunning coasters that someone in this pair may drink a beer or two? But, then again, we are in Fort Collins, home to a few breweries, to say the least. They even told me last week they made a Pinhole Camera, amazing!

Thanks again you two + I hope you will visit again.

2011 is the first year for The Love From Me Project and Mom is participating with a special piece of art. You can read more about it here. It was inspired by the 2009 (guess which one Mom did!, hint, hint, Golden Retriever) and 2010 Paws For Charity Art Book Project. Paws For Charity raised $5,500 for breast cancer charity.

Artist + Yoga Instructor = workshop ENERGY! Today I was joined by two super talented ladies in the mini Letterpress Workshop held here at CabinPress Studio. Marianne and Mindy were eager to learn as much as possible in our short time together. They chose the soft color of Brown to print with and it showed off each of there designs in a very stunning way. Look at that ampersand and how the "M" is so subtle when printed on a Kraft envelope. I hope they enjoy writing some special notes on today's stationery they created! It was nice to see such good friends making an afternoon of letterpress printing and I hope they return.

Cathy + Michelle decided on using green ink and it really made me yearn for Spring, even though it was a pretty chilly day outside the Studio. I loved the way both of them really concentrated on setting up type and designing... so much so, I forgot to shoot some photos of their fabulous work, sorry gals. As you can see mom has been busy cooking up a storm. She got carried away with the packaging, I think no packaging is the way to go, but she insists "presentation is everything", hummmm..... We will be having our quarterly, what ever that means, Paws For Tales meeting this week. Mom is excited because all the other moms will be spending the afternoon together. It will be a big day I hear! I get to go too and play with some of my Paws For Tales pals, I can't wait. Maybe I will bring along some of my birdies or a ball or two, or three. Mom and the other moms will be doing boring stuff, like wrapping all the books that we will give the kido's at the end of the school year. Maybe I will get to nibble on some wrapping paper too!

At least I am the official taste tester, WOOF WOOF for Wheat Free Yummyness.

I have no idea what mom is thinking. There is talk we are loading up after my morning mileage adventure to go have a look at this. Some think I am weird, since I really don't get excited about car rides, it is one of my "adopted" kennel issues, end of story. To go for a ride will be OK, since mom & dad will be with me, but to look at this piece of cast iron? I hear it is bigger than a tennis ball and harder than a squeaky toy. It looks dangerous! Mud Season.

Well, mom says it is official. Mud season has arrived and loves to make it's new home in my big paws. Now my daily routine has something new, it is the Big Pink Pitcher! After our 4 mile morning exploration walk my toes* get dipped in the Big Pink Pitcher. Going through the dipping ritual keeps mom satisfied in regard to big mud streaks on the 'ol wooden floors. What about her feet?

My human Dad's Birthday is today! He is my hero, he helps people. I know he will get some big surprises today at work. Today is my human mom's Birthday, she sure is stylish with that monkey, don't you think??! I have never seen her with that hairdo I must say. But, I can tell you this ... the monkey sits on a shelf in our home and mom does not look a day over WOOF, WOOF. Mom shares her birthday with Grand Canyon National Park, established February 26, 1919, a place she was a Park Ranger for many special years. We are going to have fun today, dad has lots of plans and I get to celebrate too.

My human Dad loves photography! I love it when Dad takes photos of me. My Dad just found out that one of his very special photos was chosen from over 6000 photos (that is a lot of doggie treats I hear) in the Share the Experience Official Federal Recreation Lands Photography Contest. He is excited to be one of 125 entrants that will now be voted on by the public...YOU! My human mom is sad that one of her favorite folk artist/children's book authors, Stephen Huneck, has died. His whimsical paintings, sculptures and woodcut prints of dogs celebrated his love of animals and won him a worldwide fan base, including mom, who would always visit his gallery in awe. We will miss you Stephen....

My human mom is getting ready for the real thing! All I can say is she will look really sharp in her new, crisp, red shirt. We have officially become Paws For Tales volunteers for Poudre School District. Did I tell you that the "tailor" stopped by the house to fit me for my Therapy Dog Vest that will be made to fit just me ... I am hoping my tail does not make my butt look big!
Mom heads for training at Dunn Elementary School tomorrow. I think, from what I am hearing is that she will learn the ropes, come home and tell me, then each and every Wednesday we get to have K-3rd graders read to me. I am not aloud to correct them, just listen. I am a very good listener.

My human mom loves spending hours looking through the great archives at the New York Public Library Digital Graphic site, I think it reminds her of her childhood of growing up back east and the fun visits to the huge space. Her and my human dad are not much for New Year's Resolutions.... she is more into lists, and lots of them. But one thing that did sum it up was coming across the NY Times column by Maira Kalman, who is also a fabulous book illustrator : I will make plans for trips to gardens where I will sit and draw and eat a meringue and savor the moment ....that's it!!! SAVOR THE MOMENT. Our wish to everyone is to Savor all those moments in 2010, that is what we will be doing here in Colorado.

My mom and dad are in the mood, the Christmas mood that is! Last weekend we all loaded up and headed to the mountains to look for the perfect tree. WOW, what a fun time for me. Running through the woods is one of my many talents. I was put in charge of "branch pick up". I took my job seriously and managed to not let one single branch pass me by without nibbling, chewing, or eating it. This is what mom made with all the extra branches that adorns our front door.

WOW... my human mom and dad went crazy today! They participated in the largest bike parade, at least in Colorado, maybe the world? Every year our local New Belgium Brewery has the Tour de Fat. If you have never seen a crazy bike parade check it out here!

Well, the big surprise was that today is my 4th Birthday! My human mom & dad sure did make it special. Mom made me my very own cake....yummy, yummy. I got some new tennis balls (which I can ALWAYS use!), lots of treats, and a new Beaver to add to my collection. A highlight of my birthday was when mom & dad took me to the Annual Pooch Plunge at our outdoor pool! WOW... I have never had so much fun. I worked on my swimming and tried not to drink the water, with about 100 dogs in the pool one of them may have taken a " little leak", hummm.

It's vacation time here in Colorado, but here I am with my ball in Montana! As you know, my first three years were spent in a breeding kennel.... no swimming for me. My human dad is really teaching me the ropes when it comes to water (h20). I know I should love it, but I am still a little nervous seeing my ball all by itself just floating out there. Our trip was fun to Montana and I met lots of relatives that petted me almost 24 hours a day.... my life is grand and so were they!
Tomorrow my human mom brings me to my first Canine Companion Good Citizen Class, boy is she excited. In a few weeks I might be a certified Therapy Dog and start volunteering for Paws For Tales, more on that later. I will just happily go along with it and see what happens.

My human mom is anxiously awaiting to find out who her "pen pal" will be in the "Letter Revival Festival" . Since I am not much of a writer I will just wait to hear. I hope she writes her new friend all about me too! Well, keep checking back for updates on how class is going! My mom and dad left me home alone while they went on a shopping & movie trek. I was sad not to go, but got in a good nap during their absence. I was so excited because they brought me home a surprise.... Guess what it is??? Yes, since it is spring here in Colorado, they gave me a Robin to add to my Flock!!
My dad leaves tomorrow for Oregon to take photos, I am going to put all my songbirds in his suitcase to keep him company, I hope he will be surprised, but not charged extra if his bag is over the weight limit.

We walked to the Post Office to ship off a special wedding order my Human Mom just completed. These clutches are heading to Florida for a "nautical" theme wedding. Here in Colorado I have been playing with my tennis balls in snow & I love it! I don't think I would do well in Florida, so I am glad these clutches went instead of me.
